The Tripods

The Tripods is a television show that is based on a series of novels written by John Christopher called The Tripods. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and the Seven Network (Seven) in Australia worked together to make it. Ken Freeman was the one who penned the music for the soundtrack. The first book, The White Mountains, is covered in the first series of The Tripods, which was broadcast in 1984 and had 13 half-hour episodes written by Alick Rowe, a well-known author who has written many radio plays. The second book, The City of Gold and Lead, is covered in the second series, which has 12 episodes. A television script had been developed for the third series, but the series was never actually produced. The first series was made available for purchase on both VHS and DVD. Tripods: The Complete Series 1 & 2 was initially made available on DVD by the BBC in March of 2009. It was mentioned in the book that the gravity inside the Golden City was artificially increased, but this was left out of the TV series. The TV series also included the introduction of "cognoscs," which are spiritual life-forms that are vastly superior to the Masters themselves. Additionally, there were more other main characters, including love interests for both Will and Beanpole. There are not many female characters in the original texts. During an interview for Wordcandy, John Christopher was asked about this topic, and in response, he stated that during the time he was writing the series, it was commonly understood that girls would read books with boy main characters, but not the other way around. In addition to this, he claimed that he believed the inclusion of a complete family of female characters into the television series was "over the top." Additionally, the series is unique for being one of the few at the time to feature aliens that were not humanoid in appearance.
